Where is the check mark?

√ is under Math; ✓ ✔ ☑ and the crosses ✗ ✘ ☒ are under Shapes.

Can I use them in Word or Excel?

Yes, just paste. In the online document editor you can also use Insert ▸ Special characters.

Will emoji look the same on other phones?

They may look different — each system draws emoji with its own font — but the meaning is the same.

What is the Unicode code for?

Some apps accept it directly — in Word, type 2192 then Alt+X for →.

Does it need the internet?

Not once the page has loaded; copying is local.
