Remove author and personal information from Office files

Before a bid, CV or quote goes out, its properties may still say “Author: Anna · Company: Acme · Last modified by: Ben”, even the folder path on your computer. Drop the file and those fields are cleared (only the ones actually present are reported); tick “Also delete comments” to remove every comment and what it references. Title and subject — descriptions you set on purpose — are kept. Content, formatting and images are unchanged.

不能做

  • Title, subject and keywords are kept — usually intentional
  • Tracked changes are not removed — accept or reject them in Word first
  • EXIF data inside pictures is not removed

How do I know what was cleared?

The result lists each one, e.g. “Cleared: Author, Company and Last modified by”. Missing fields are not listed.

Are tracked changes removed?

No — they are part of the content. Use Review ▸ Accept / Reject all changes in Word.

Does deleting comments affect the text?

No — only the comments and their markers go; the commented text stays.

Can I do several at once?

Yes — drop several files and download them separately or as a ZIP.

Is anything uploaded?

No, it all happens in your browser.

What about Word’s Inspect Document?

That works too; this is for when you do not have Office, including on a phone, and it handles Excel and PPT the same way.
