Make a pivot table online

Drop an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file in and the online spreadsheet opens it with the pivot table dialog already showing: choose which columns become rows and columns and which one to sum, count, average, or take the max or min of, and the result is written to a new sheet. The first row must be headers. The result is a set of calculated values, so rebuild it if the source changes; there are no slicers and no automatic date grouping yet.

How to use it

  1. 1 Drop or choose an Excel or CSV file (first row as headers), or use the sample data
  2. 2 In the dialog, choose rows, columns and the values to summarise
  3. 3 Confirm and the result appears on a new sheet, ready to sort or chart

What it does

  • Grouping by one or more columns, as rows or columns
  • Sum, count, average, max and min
  • Writing results to a new sheet without touching the source
  • Opening .xlsx, .xls and .csv files

What it doesn’t do

  • Slicers and calculated fields
  • Automatic date grouping by year, quarter or month
  • Refreshing automatically when the source changes (results are static; rebuild them)

FAQ

How should the data be laid out?

One record per row with headers in the first row (for example Date, Region, Product, Sales), no blank rows and no merged cells.

Can I group by two fields?

Yes. Put several fields in rows (region, then product), and add a field to columns for a cross-tab.

Which summaries are supported?

Sum, count, average, maximum and minimum.

Does the pivot table update when the data changes?

No. The result is a set of calculated values on a new sheet; rebuild it after changing the data.

Can I do this without Excel?

Yes. Everything happens in the online spreadsheet in your browser, and you can download the result as XLSX.

Is the file uploaded?

Not while you are signed out — the file is processed in your browser.
